Ridge City Law and Order
As you might imagine, sometimes the folks in Ridge City, the largest city in all of Ridge Country, don’t follow all the rules. So there’s a Ridge City Police Department (RCPD) that makes sure most people follow most of the rules most of the time. In general, they’re a group of dedicated, hard-working police officers trying to keep their city safe for everyone.
But there are some people or problems that the RCPD can’t handle.
Specifically, the RCPD has a serious problem if the person not following the rules is someone associated with the most powerful entity in all of Ridge Country: The Temple of Truth.
I’ll tell you more about the Temple and its folks–a lot more–in another blog post. Just assume that the Temple is a combination of the major educational facility, the most powerful governmental organization, and the most prosperous business in all of Ridge Country. The people in the Temple are devoted to science, logic, and rationality at all costs.
These are not fun folks. Just saying…
What’s a Good Cop to Do?
ANYWAY…if a Temple person goes wrong, the RCPD is almost completely handcuffed in terms of their ability to do anything about it. Protocol, status, wealth, and sheer political power means that anyone who is part of the Temple and anyone who is closely tied to the Temple are almost sacrosanct from ordinary laws. I’m not talking about getting a speeding ticket or four fixed. I’m talking about major criminal activity. And the higher the person is in the Temple hierarchy, the less the RCPD can do. It’s enough to make a good cop weep with frustration.
So…what’s a good cop supposed to do when he or she suspects Temple involvement in a major crime—like a murder of a young woman? Can’t arrest a Temple big shot and expect the case ever to go to trial. Nope. That won’t work. So what does the cop do?
Should be obvious. They hire an assassin…
