Chloe Hall
Writing Strong Women in a Changed World
I’ve been writing professionally for a long, LONG time, and published a half-dozen novels under various pen names, including Chloe Hall. I’ve published about as many nonfiction books in that time. Then, about 10 years ago, life caught up with me and I stopped writing novels. It happens, and we just roll with it.While I’ve always been addicted to science fiction as well as mystery and romance genres, I discovered a new genre that I fell in love with: urban fantasy. Especially those UF novels that have complex worlds and strong female leads who have, you know…a life beyond kicking ass and offing monsters.
My faves include Patricia Briggs, Anne Bishop’s The Others series, Mel Todd, Shelly Laurenston (gotta love those honey badgers!), Jennifer Estep and others, especially those that have strong threads of humor mixed in with the adventure and fun. Which is why I keep adding Gini Koch’s super-fun Aliens series to the mix of faves even though (yes, Gini, I know) it’s really SF and not UF.
I realized, however, that all these many wonderful writers simply cannot keep up with my demand for reading matter. The result is, I’ve dusted off my novel-writing chops and resorted to writing my own stories. Nearly all of them for the next while will be UF, set in a climate-changed world hit with multiple environmental disasters.
My series is about a cool lady, Kylie Tyger, who just happens to be a (wait for it) sort of mortician who Sings the Life of the Dead. How does she do that? Well, turns out she can see and speak to the recently dead. And sometimes ghosts. And, oh yeah, did I mention her side gig? She’s an assassin, working mostly for the local cops when they discover a really bad person who can’t be brought to justice in more normal ways because of power, money, status, or other issue. Kylie and her twin brother Keeth have their own issues and personal tragedies to deal with, but she handles them in fashionista style and with a sassy attitude.
I love Kylie and Keeth and their whole massively disrupted world. I hope you will love them too! Sign up for my newsletter, and you’ll get monthly updates as well as special offers and even a free story!
